These Are Krazy, Krazy, Krazy Nights!
So sang the mighty Kiss in the late eighties, little did they know
that in Liverpool, England there was a Club / Venue called ‘Sloane’s’
that was about to bring that song to real life! Bruce Dickinson
singer with legendary Metal band Iron Maiden who is a ‘Tattooed
Millionaire’ sang ‘We went down the Krazy House’
had his visit impressed him that much?
Bands that have rolled through this Mecca of all things Rock over
the years have included: Korn, Bush, Placebo, Travis, Stereophonics,
Catatonia, Fear Factory, The Wildhearts, Stone Temple Pilots, Oasis,
Coal Chamber, Moby, Biohazard alongside many, many more. In fact
my first live show at the place was Thin Lizzy!
So when I was asked if I fancied taking over the Saturday night
as resident Dj Ten years ago, I did not have to think twice!
Why? Simple really, growing up across the water I had come into
Liverpool week in, week out & apart from the times I have been
in New York, I have never felt more at home, & I never wanted
to work in any other city apart from those two. Having now been
a Dj in both & with an offer in 97’ to move to the ‘Big
Apple’ permanently, well I remained in Liverpool, so which
do you think I feel is the #1 city!
So we built, we expanded, we rocked, we rolled, we went from one
floor (K1), then into next door for the original K2, up a floor
with the ‘new’ version, then we even went into the loft
to create the K3, all this with a six screen video lounge, what
a long way we have come!
So to the music, No matter who you are, you are never going to
be totally happy with all the songs played over six hours in a club,
hell I used to moan about the music (I still do) when I went out
to clubs, but what I try to do is find a balance between Metal /
Rock / Alternative.
Sometimes the balance tips towards certain areas, sometimes it seems
like it doesn’t’ change, sometimes it feels like there
is more ‘Nu-Skool’ than ‘Ol-Skool’ but my
thought is always ‘Fuck-Skool’
You see people change, you change, I change, In 1993, it was all,
screw that old stuff like Guns & Roses, Led Zep etc, Metallica
had ‘sold out’ apparently even then, so we had Pantera,
Fear Factory, Biohazard as the future of rock, Three years later
& they were ‘old’ & Korn, Limp Bizkit were the
order of the day, Then Marilyn Manson, into Rammstein, Tool &
now it’s System Of A Down & Tenacious D, If we believe
what we hear then soon it will be Finch & Inme!
The point I’m making is to every generation of ‘new’
rock fans, everything is old & past it, to all the ‘old’
crew, nothing is as good as it was, Metal fans hate Rock, Rock fans
don’t like Alternative, and as for Indie, well, that died
a death didn’t it? The Rolling Stones once sang ‘You
can’t always get what you want, but if you try sometimes,
you just might find, you get what you need’ but also Faith
No More noted that ‘It’s a dirty job, but someone’s
got to do it’
So grab your coat, come on down, remember that there are Three
floors of music to choose from, so if you don’t like one,
then Fuck off to another, grab a beer, grab a guy / girl, dance,
have fun, enjoy the songs you like, suffer the one’s you don’t,
go home, screw, wake up, say ‘I’m never drinking again’
One week later, come out for round two, then three, four….
We will still be here waiting, playing, taking shit for an unthankable
job, I hate you, you hate me, We all love loud ‘Rock &
Roll’ be seeing you around!
